CAMPAIGNS

Politics needs to be done differently. Gone are the days of making promises and asking for votes. The future of politics lies in being thae change, through grassroots campaigns that make a difference.
DIGNITY FOR DISABLED

Mary is a passionate disabled rights campaigner and is horrified by the cruel and irrational reforms the coalition govenment has enforced on disabled people. Mary says:

"With the abolition of the ILF, DSA and Access to Elected Office funds and severe restrictions on welfare benefits and Access to Work grants, disabled people are being locked out of society".

Mary is Chair of Disability Labour, a socialist society affiliated with The Labour Party.

Mary is lobbying hard for a rethink on these policy changes, for greater inclusion of disabled people in politics and for disability hate crime to be made a crime.

IN MAY 2015 ACCESS TO ELECTED OFFICE IS CLOSING. THIS WILL PREVENT DISABLED PEOPLE BEING ABLE TO STAND AS CANDIDATES IN LOCAL, REGIONAL AND NATIONAL ELECTIONS. THIS IS AN ATTACK ON DEMOCRACY.

FIGHTING FOR FAIRBOURNE

Residents in Fairbourne have been told that in 10 years time they should prepare for managed retreat. Gwynedd councillors decided to break the news via the media, not to residents themselves. This is a disgraceful sign of disrespect to a local community.

Mary mith Owen Jones at The Guardian's offices. Solidarity to Fairbourne Facing Change. We are beihind you 100%.

Mary has met with Maria Eagle MP to discuss the future of the Cambrian Coast railway and sea defence investment.

Mary believes the current Treasury calculation of £1m worth of sea defence investment for every £8m worth of property unfairly discriminates poorer areas where property prices are not as high.

FAIR DEAL FOR FARMERS

Farmers are getting a raw deal, with the collapse of the milk industry, largely due to the collapse of the Chinese and Russian markets there are no quick solutions.

There needs to be better engagement with farmers - the EU are imposing new rules that make little sense to many farmers. Mary is working with EU officials to get farmers voices heard.

Mary will work hard to negotiate a better deal with farmers by tackling supermarkets.

"We don't want cheap food, we want good quality affordable food that provides health benefits and fair deal for farmers. We need better procurement of local products from supermarkets and public services such as schools and hospitals".
